Meet Ryan Deith
We like to bring you closer to the people that make up the Falko Team. This time we are focusing on Ryan Deith, who is an Investment Analyst for us.
How did you get into Aviation?
Aside from my love of travel and exploring new places, I have always had an interest in aviation – ever since my parents took me to the RAF museum in Hendon as a child. I remember being fascinated by the ingenuity of it all. Falko have provided me the perfect opportunity to work within an industry that has always been a passion of mine.
Briefly describe your career path which led to your current position
I have been working within the accountancy and finance sector for over twelve years. I started out undertaking my AAT qualification, then continued my studies, passing my ACCA exams and becoming a fully qualified Certified Chartered Accountant in 2017.
I decided against the traditional route of university as I wanted to gain as much real-life experience as possible, so I joined an accountancy practice in Central London. This allowed me to gain a broad range of skills and I have since had the pleasure of working within a variety of sectors – Including Financial Services, Media, Not-for-profit and Education.
How would you describe your current role and responsibilities?
In my current role as Investment Analyst, my main duties include Month end Fund accounting and balance sheet reconciliations, cashflow modelling, preparation of quarterly Fund investment valuation, updating of quarterly investor reports and revising Fund performance financials/metrics. I am also responsible for the calculation and co-ordination of Fund drawdowns and distributions.
I work closely with the multidisciplinary teams within Falko, ensuring I am up to date with all the latest information. Within the role, I am always looking for new challenges and to push myself professionally. I enjoy the fast-paced nature of it and the variety of work which this can include.
What do you enjoy about your role at Falko?
The team spirit – I have never experienced a company where every individual, regardless of position, is willing to help whoever is in need. Throughout each different team within Falko, there is a collection of approachable, friendly people with a drive to succeed. I believe Falko is incredibly ambitious with our targets and I love that we all work collaboratively to achieve them.
What challenges do you see facing your industry?
Unfortunately, like many other industries we are in a post COVID recovery period but it is good to see things gradually returning to normal. Another challenge is the impact aviation has on the environment and the ever-growing concerns surrounding this. However, at Falko we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
What is the one thing within the aviation industry that your clients have to deal with that you want to fix?
Airlines have faced a very turbulent time, with COVID-19 causing mass disruption (travel restrictions, changing passenger behaviour etc). I would like to see things settle down and see the industry return to how it was pre-pandemic.
What is your favourite film?
I enjoy the Taken films starring Liam Neeson although Only Fools and Horses never fails to put a smile on my face.
What do you enjoy when you’re not working?
I am a family man; I have two children who keep me on my toes! As mentioned, I love to travel, next month I am visiting Addis Ababa to take part in the Great Ethiopian Run with ‘Team Falko’ to raise funds for Orbis Ireland. A charity who are transforming lives through the prevention and treatment of blindness.
Of course, I can’t not mention my love of football and all things Spurs! When my ankle allows, you’ll find me organising and playing in the Falko 5-a side!
